Celebrating the achievements of the 25 fastest-growing technology companies in South Florida, Restockit was honored with the SFBJ 2010 Fast Tech Award.
Co-CEOs: Matt Kuttler and David Redlich were interviewed:
- What has driven your success? ReStockIt.com spent 2009 focused on implementing a new foundation, including an enhanced user experience on our website, optimized pricing, expanded product selection and integrating new data-driven processes internally. These strategies plus hiring six new employees, were significant in converting shoppers to buyers, growing revenue and improving profits.
- How did the economy affect your growth? As companies have looked to save money, many office managers have used the Internet to find savings on supplies. ReStockIt.com has been well positioned, with 200,000 products in a wide selection of categories.
- What obstacles did you have to overcome? We’ve overcome many obstacles including being a small fish in a big pond with large competitors, driving down costs with vendors to ensure we are offering competitive and fair pricing to customers, and working with an extremely lean team of employees.
- What philosophies or strategies did you devise or implement in order to perform during the down economy? ReStockIt.com hired a number of people over the past few years and took an employee-focused approach to building the culture. Besides building a strong culture, we have increased product options across the major categories to give customers more options and purchase hard-to-find items. We’ve also implemented free shipping at the SKU level, and received strong response from this strategy.
- What advice can you offer to other tech businesses hoping to thrive in tough times? ReStockIt.com prides itself on providing each and every customer a “wow†customer experience. Every inbound customer communication is treated as an opportunity to build a lifelong customer relationship.
- Do you expect more, less or the same growth this year? We are up 47 percent as compared to 2009. In August, we moved to a new office that is close to double the space of our previous office.
- What’s your outlook for 2011? Lots of growth. We are looking forward to the economy turning around, and we are ready to take on more business. We are finding new ways to help connect with existing customers to ensure they are continuously happy with our products, services and us.
- What’s the biggest tech trend you see emerging? We are talking about our mobile offerings, our connections in social media and our need to connect with people via an app or some sort of cell phone connection. We believe that more and more people will shop from their phones, and we are looking to get into that arena in the next year.
